Los Angeles, Sushi Tsujita and Churros Calientes 9/9/16

Sushi Tsujita

Los Angeles, CA

For my boyfriend's birthday dinner I last minute decided to make a reservation for Sushi Tsujita since he wanted sushi. It was very nice and intimate because we were the only customers in there at 7PM on a Friday night. (which is why I could easily get a reservation the same day) We sat at the sushi counter because thats the best place to sit for an omakase meal. There are 3 omakase meal sets and I chose the middle one which comes with 2 appetizers and 15 pieces of nigiri for $150.

Take of the lime and underneath is the cup you will pour this delicious hot broth into. I ALWAYS GET WATER OK??? I DONT DRINK.

Add a little lime if you'd like, it's like a seafood stock with shrimp, mussels, lobster, tofu, and some white fish.

One of their signature dishes: comes under a smoky clear bowl and then you lift it and smell the aromas. The smoked toro was so smoky and fatty that it reminded me of eating actual beef.

The set up for eating nigiri the authentic way: with your own fingers. NO SOY SAUCE NEEDED. Of course they have their house made nigiri sauce if you wanna be a douche and ruin all the flavor of the fish. Also little pickled ginger cubes were not as overpowering as you might think.

The sushi already comes dressed so no need for extra sauce OKKKK?

As soon as we sit down we are introduced to our sushi chef who gave us his business card right away and I don't why. It was very sweet though.

Red snapper.... The chef was very knowledgeable about every single piece of sushi he handed us and had a very heavy Japanese accent. All the fish that was from Japan he knew exactly which prefecture it came from. So I'm sorry I didn't have a pen and paper =[... but like you even care or will remember yourself right???

Snapper belly.

Black mackerel

BLUEFIN tuna

The throat of some fish. (sorry the chef had a really thick accent so you know it was really good.)

LIVE SWEET SHRIMP.

Amberjack

Squid

Fried shrimp.

*I FORGOT I'M VERY SORRY IM NEW TO THIS SHIT*

O TORO

Another mackerel.

Their other signature dish: Ikura is my all time favorite food since I was 5. Or maybe even earlier. The salty, briney flavor, fun way it pops in your mouth reminded me of candy when I was young. To pair it with UNI was even better seasoned with a bonito broth. I could eat a bowl about 10x for a meal and I would be GOOD.

Barely seared scallop in crispy seaweed!

Red miso soup. Pretty average.

Ending the courses with eel and tamago (egg) The egg was a little on the sweet side which I didn't really mind and reminded me and my boyfriend of pound cake.

Roasted green tea

End it with a nice refreshing palate cleanser made with yuzu juice. They call it Yuzunade. I couldn't finish it because for me it was too sour but my boyfriend downed it.

Everything was delicious and fresh, the rice was perfect ratio and the chef had even asked in the beginning if it was good for us. Sadly I don't know how much longer this place will last because my my boyfriend I were the only customers on a Friday night! Only another pair came in during the couple hours we were there. It is probably the priciest restaurant on Sawtelle so I don't see much clientele for them because it's mostly college kids in that area. So give it a try before it's gone....! JK... Maybe??

THANK YOU SUSHI TSUJITA!

Churros Calientes
Los Angeles, CA

For dessert Churros Calientes always does the job! They are the best churros in town and I always get it with either dulce de leche or nutella (which is extra).

*NOT PICTURED*

I've also tried their Churros Grande which is about the same price ($5.95) as above but instead it is one big fat churro which you can fill with either dulce, nutella, strawberry, condensed milk, or guava and top it with a different saw as well. Their churros largos with the hot chocolate which is like literal melted dark spiced chocolate is the best dipping sauce for plain churros. Their churros with ice crean and whipped cream and choice of sauce??? Simple but can't go wrong. (Can you tell I've been here numerous times and I love desserts so much?)

THANK YOU CHURROS CALIENTES!
